Who we are

LetterMilo is made by Ho Ye Lam. This policy covers the iPad app and lettermilo.com.

The app and website are provided by Kin-Yee, based in the Netherlands and registered at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 75399423. For privacy questions, email hoyelam@kin-yee.com.

Learning and progress

LetterMilo does not require an account or ask children for their name, date of birth, or email address. The app stores practice progress, earned stars, Milo’s clothes, background choices, and settings on your iPad. These learning records are not sent to our analytics or crash-reporting services.

Your device’s backup settings may include app data in an iCloud or computer backup. LetterMilo does not provide its own account or cloud-sync service.

Microphone and speech

Speaking activities are optional. On supported devices, LetterMilo requests microphone permission and checks speech on the iPad using Apple’s on-device speech technology. LetterMilo does not save or upload microphone recordings or recognised words.

Listening starts after the word-practice prompt and stops when you tap Stop or leave the exercise. You can use tapping activities instead and change microphone permission in iPad Settings. Apple may download language models before speech recognition is available. Milo’s narration is included in the app and plays locally.

Crash reports

The app automatically sends crash reports and app-session diagnostics to Sentry to help us find and fix technical problems. Reports can include app version, device and operating-system details, crash information, session timing, and random installation and session identifiers. Sentry may derive an approximate region from the network connection. This information is sent to Sentry’s US service.

We do not attach microphone recordings, recognised words, learning records, screenshots, or screen recordings. The app does not provide a separate switch for crash reporting.

Optional app-usage sharing

“Share app usage” is off by default. When enabled in Grown-ups, LetterMilo sends button taps and app-usage events to Mixpanel, together with app and device information and a random app identifier. We use these events to understand which features are used and improve the app. They are sent to Mixpanel’s EU service. IP-address geolocation is disabled.

These events do not include answers, microphone recordings, recognised words, learning records, or a child’s name. Turning sharing off stops future collection and clears events waiting on the device. It does not automatically delete events already sent.

Sharing Milo

In Milo’s wardrobe, you can create and share a picture of Milo’s outfit and background, together with a prepared caption and an App Store link when available. It does not include learning progress or speech. The app or service you choose in the system share sheet handles the picture under its own privacy rules. Pictures saved to Photos may be included in your Photos backups or sync settings.

Website and support

This website does not include analytics scripts, advertising, contact forms, or tracking cookies. The sample word game runs in your browser. It does not use your microphone or save your answers. It is hosted on GitHub Pages. When you visit, GitHub receives information needed to deliver and protect the site, such as your IP address, requested page, browser information, and request time. GitHub may retain delivery and security logs. See GitHub’s privacy statement.

If you email us, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments you choose to send. We use this information to answer your request. Please avoid sending a child’s name, voice recordings, or other unnecessary personal information.

Your choices and rights

Parents and guardians can manage microphone permission, optional app-usage sharing, device backups, and the pictures they choose to share. Deleting LetterMilo and its app data removes progress stored by the app on that device; existing backups and previously shared pictures are managed separately.

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, or to object to or restrict its processing. Contact hoyelam@kin-yee.com to make a request. Because LetterMilo has no accounts, we may need further information to locate relevant records. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

Changes

We will update this page when LetterMilo’s data practices change and show the date above. Where required, we will provide additional notice or request permission before introducing a change.
